Elspeth Moon, Intern Counselor
About
Elspeth Moon
I am currently pursuing my MAE in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Chadron State College. During this educational experience, I am learning how to integrate my clients cultural background and lived experiences into my practice, where I seek to use the knowledge I have gained to help them find their own path forward.
To Date:
B.A. in Psychology
I am working on my required 600 hours of internship currently and have completed all other coursework for the CMHC degree program.

My Practicum Experience was at a telehealth only private practice, Holland Counseling. I worked with Ann Holland for a semester, observing her with clients and beginning to develop the in session skills I would need to move forward in my education.
My internship is currently at Fair Winds Counseling, where I am working with Leta Voigt. I have helped facilitate a DBT group with her, and have started taking on my own clients.
As I mentioned earlier, I am a queer & nonbinary person. I am comfortable with both She/Her and They/Them pronouns. I was raised in a small mid-western town. Due to the impacts of a variety of stressors, I saw the importance of caring for your mental health up close. This combined with my desire to help others, turning into a lifelong passion for this field.
Currently, I live in a town near where I grew up. I work at a residential vocational development center which allows me to mentor young adults as they work towards becoming healthy and independent. I am a step-parent to my partner's two children, and a "cat & dog" mom to our 7 pets. When not working, I'm spending time with family or doing something creative.

My Approach
I believe that each client is unique and will need an approach tailored to them. The things that impact the approach for any specific client includes their history, diagnosis, goals, and many other factors. I am tailoring my specialty towards working with LGBT+ clients, as well as disability and trauma. However, if I believe that we can work well together, I will learn what I can in order to best meet your unique needs. Everyone, regardless of ability or identity, can have and deserves to live a life that is fulfilling to them. As a counselor, it's my job to help you figure out what that looks like to you, and how to get there.
